Secure Print Release

Printing that keeps confidential documents confidential

With uniFLOW secure release, documents print only when the user authenticates at the device. No sensitive pages left in trays, no unattributed printing, and a full audit trail.

The short answer

What is secure print release?

Secure print release, sometimes called pull printing, holds print jobs on a secure server until the user authenticates at any device, with a card, PIN or phone, and releases them there and then. Documents stop sitting in output trays for anyone to read, uncollected jobs are never printed at all, and every page is logged to a person. It is the single most effective change for print security, control and waste.

  • Documents release only to the person who printed them
  • Print from any desk, collect at any device on any site
  • Uncollected jobs expire instead of printing, cutting waste
  • Every page attributed and auditable, by user and department
  • ZeroUncollected prints left in output trays
  • FullAudit trail of who printed what, where and when
  • GDPRConfidential output protected by default
What's included

Secure print, delivered as a service

uniFLOW secure release

Jobs held encrypted until the user authenticates at the device. The de facto standard for Canon fleets, deployed by accredited engineers.

Flexible authentication

Release with the door-entry card staff already carry, a PIN or a mobile app, whatever fits how your offices work.

Full audit trail

Every job logged to a named user and device, exactly what legal, HR and compliance teams need to evidence control.

Budget management & rules

Per-user and per-department reporting for predictable budget management, plus rules that route jobs sensibly, such as defaulting to duplex and mono.

Device hardening

Printers are computers on your network. We lock down hard drives, ports and firmware as part of the rollout.

Scan security too

Authenticated scan-to-email and scan-to-cloud workflows, so documents leaving paper form are controlled as tightly as those entering it.

How it works

FAQs

Secure Print Release, your questions answered

How does secure print release improve GDPR compliance?

Uncollected documents in printer trays are one of the most common and least noticed data exposures in any office. Secure release means personal and confidential data only appears when its owner is standing at the device, and the audit trail evidences that control, exactly what a regulator or client audit wants to see.

What is uniFLOW?

uniFLOW is the print and scan management platform we deploy for secure release, accounting and workflow, developed by NT-ware for Canon environments. uniFLOW Online is the cloud version, which needs no on-premise servers; the on-premise edition suits regulated environments that want everything in-house.

Does secure printing work with our existing devices?

Usually, yes. uniFLOW integrates natively with Canon devices and supports mixed fleets. During the free print audit we confirm exactly what your current hardware can do and whether anything needs upgrading to support secure release.

Will it slow down printing for staff?

No. Jobs are waiting at the device before the user gets there; authentication takes a second with a card tap. Most teams find printing feels faster, because they collect everything in one visit and never reprint jobs lost in shared trays.

How much waste does secure release remove?

Industry experience is that a meaningful share of printed pages are never collected, and secure release eliminates them entirely because unclaimed jobs expire unprinted. Combined with duplex and mono defaults, most clients see immediate, visible reductions in paper and toner use.

Can people print from mobiles and home working?

Yes. uniFLOW supports submitting jobs from mobiles and remote locations, with jobs held securely until the user is physically at a device to release them, which is precisely the behaviour hybrid working needs.
