FAQs

Connectivity & Telecoms, your questions answered

What is the difference between a leased line and business broadband?

A leased line is a dedicated fibre connection with guaranteed, symmetrical speeds and an SLA on fixes, ideal when the internet going down means work stops. Business broadband shares infrastructure and costs less, but speeds vary and fix times are slower. Many clients pair a leased line with broadband failover.

What is VoIP and hosted telephony?

VoIP (Voice over IP) carries calls over your internet connection instead of traditional phone lines. A hosted system lives in the cloud, so there is no phone system box in a cupboard, staff can take calls on laptops and mobiles, and adding users takes minutes rather than engineer visits.

What is the PSTN switch-off and does it affect us?

The UK’s traditional analogue phone network (PSTN) is being retired, with the switch-off completing in January 2027. Anything still relying on analogue lines, including phone systems, alarm lines and some payment terminals, needs a digital replacement. We audit what you have and migrate you well before the deadline.

Can you take over our existing lines and numbers?

Yes. We can take over management of existing services, and port your numbers to a new system without interruption. Number porting is a well-worn process for us, including the timing so the cutover happens without missed calls.

How do you keep our office online if a line fails?

We design failover in from the start: a secondary connection on a different technology or carrier, with automatic switchover. For most businesses the result is that a line fault becomes a notification rather than an outage.

Can our phones integrate with Microsoft Teams?

Yes. We deliver telephony that integrates with Teams, so staff can make and receive external calls in the tool they already use, while keeping proper call routing, hunt groups and reporting for the business.
