The pressures we plan around

January is carnage

The last week of self-assessment season is no time for a slow server or a locked-out user. We plan capacity, cover and change freezes around your filing peaks, not our convenience.

MTD multiplies everything

Since April 2026, clients over £50,000 file quarterly through MTD, with the £30,000 band following in 2027. That is four extra deadline peaks a year, more software seats and more client data flowing through your systems. Your IT has to be built for it.

You sit in the payment chain

Invoice and mandate fraud cost UK businesses £41m in 2025. One hijacked mailbox mid-transaction puts your PI insurance and reputation on the line, so we harden email and identity first.

Legacy software, modern working

Plenty of good firms still run IRIS, Sage or CCH on an ageing server or creaking remote desktop. We modernise the hosting without forcing you off the software your practice actually runs on.

Client records arrive in carrier bags

Email attachments, paper bundles, unencrypted PDFs. We put secure portals, scanning workflows and retention rules around client documents so exchange is safe and findable.

Everyone wants evidence

AML supervision, PI renewals, client due diligence, insurer questionnaires. We keep your IT controls documented and audit-ready, so producing evidence takes minutes rather than weeks.

FAQs

Professional Services, your questions answered

Is our firm ready for MTD for Income Tax?

Since 6 April 2026, clients with qualifying income over £50,000 must keep digital records and file quarterly through HMRC-recognised software, with the £30,000 band following in 2027 and £20,000 in 2028. The IT question is whether your practice software, portals, bandwidth and security can absorb four extra filing peaks a year. We assess exactly that and fix the gaps before your next quarterly deadline.

Can you support us through busy periods like January and year-end?

Yes. We plan around your calendar: change freezes before deadline weeks, proactive checks on the systems that matter most, and support capacity that scales through self-assessment season, year-end and payroll peaks.

What security do PI and cyber insurers expect from an accountancy practice?

At minimum: multi-factor authentication on email, remote access and cloud services, patched and supported systems, tested backups and staff phishing training. Cyber Essentials certification is the fastest way to evidence all of it at renewal, and we take firms through it end to end.

Why are accountants such a target for cyber criminals?

Firms concentrate exactly what attackers want: client identity data, bank details and a trusted seat in the payment chain. The government’s 2025/26 survey found 43% of UK businesses were attacked in the year, with phishing the most disruptive attack type, and invoice and mandate fraud alone cost UK businesses £41m in 2025.

How long do we have to keep client records, and can we digitise them?

Company and VAT records must be kept six years, self-assessment records at least five. HMRC accepts digital copies for most records, so we scan, index and archive them securely with retention rules applied, freeing office space without risking compliance.

Can you host our legacy practice software and still support hybrid working?

Yes. Suites like IRIS, Sage and CCH often need a Windows server environment. We host and manage them properly, on-premise, in the cloud or hybrid, so partners and staff get secure access from anywhere without the firm being forced into premature software changes.
